Swimming Lessons: Your Role as a Parent
At Steve Wallen Swim School, we take great pride in treating our staff and swimmers like family. As a family-owned and operated business, we’ve always put families first, and always will. When you and your child learn to swim with us, it’s truly a team effort, and your role as a parent is a big part of that success.
Your Role in Their Success
Your involvement is critical to your child’s growth as a swimmer. You’ve already found the premier learn-to-swim school in California, set up lessons, picked out swim gear, and rearranged your schedule to make it happen. Once lessons begin, your support continues to play a major role in helping your child thrive.
Parent Participation in Baby and Me Classes
If you’re joining our Baby and Me learn-to-swim class, get ready to be hands-on. These classes are all about parent or caregiver participation. You’ll learn how to hold your baby securely while allowing them to move freely through the water, how to recover your balance, and how to encourage your baby’s confidence as they discover a love for swimming—all under the guidance of our instructors.
Supporting Young Swimmers
For preschoolers and young children, your engagement is just as important. Every “Watch me!” moment is a call for your attention and encouragement. Being present during lessons allows you to cheer them on, observe their progress, and reinforce what they’re learning outside the pool.
Encouraging Older Swimmers
As your child grows older, your involvement evolves. Talk with them about their lessons, any challenges they face, and their goals. Many of our students go on to explore competitive swimming, lifeguarding, or even dream of becoming Navy SEALs or serving in the Coast Guard. Swimming opens doors—and your encouragement helps them walk through them.
Be Their Biggest Supporter
Above all, remember that you are your child’s biggest supporter. Learning to swim can bring moments of triumph and challenge, and your presence provides both comfort and celebration. By showing up, engaging, and sharing in their aquatic journey, you’re fostering not just skill development, but a lifelong family love for the water.
