Learning to Swim to a Lifetime of Confidence
Swimming Lessons for Kids and Adults of All Ages and Skill Levels At Steve Wallen Swim Schools in Roseville and El Dorado Hills
By Alex Cordova
I remember my parents telling me about the first time I ever swam in a pool.
They put me in a sitting floaty for babies and I paddled around a swimming pool for hours. I had created a new habit of swimming away from them when it was time to hop out of the water. I guess from then on, I was set to spend the next 20 years in the pool.
My parents placed me in traditional swim lessons from baby swim lessons to swim clinics at age 8.
I later joined my first swim team when I was 9 years old. I just recently retired from college swimming in early 2019. I remember always having this excitement when I mastered a new skill, dropped time in a race or made it through a tough swim practice.
A Passion For Teaching Others How to Swim
To this day, I have all those swim lesson ribbons, medals, and trophies with memories attached to each one. It has been my passion to share my love and excitement for swimming with any person I came across.
I have taught swim lessons since my freshman year of college and it has brought so much joy into my life.
With this as my last summer home, I was thankful for the opportunity to teach swim lessons at Steve Wallen Swim School.
It provided me a way to create a fun learning environment for all ages.
During my time at SWSS, I have taught baby lessons, kids swim lessons, and adult swim lessons with a range of ages from 15 months old to 36 years old. All with a goal to be comfortable in the water and learn how to swim.
Seeing a child or adult learn to blow bubbles, push off the wall or swim a big lap across the pool is one of the most rewarding things I have ever experienced. It is not just about the skills they mastered, but about the confidence from accomplishing something scary or new.
I have had students who never dreamed of putting their face in the water. After a couple of months, they could swim with big arms and rollovers. The smile on their faces is priceless and I know it will stick with them long after they forget my name.
Swimming is a Transformative Sport & Skill
I am so thankful for the opportunity to work at Steve Wallen Swim School and teach swimming lessons for the summer of 2019.
The students I have taught here have made me laugh and smile every day and it’s something I am forever grateful for.
Swimming is such a transformative sport and skill, and it has always been a goal of mine to share that passion and excitement with every student I teach. I truly believe that one swim lesson can lead to a lifetime of confidence for a person and that is truly a magical thing.
