A Substitute Teacher: All the Benefits
At Steve Wallen Swim School, we offer a robust roster of highly trained and carefully supervised swimming instructors. These energetic, talented, and skilled individuals in El Dorado Hills and Roseville have been prepared to teach according to our exacting standards. All of our instructors embrace and deliver our highly successful learn-to-swim curriculum. In fact, every aspect of Steve Wallen Swim School has been designed to foster success and a lifelong love of the water.
Lessons designed for success!
In addition, our small class size and options for private and semi-private lessons will see your child become the swimmer they were meant to be. However, the instructor assigned to your child’s swimming lessons may change due to various unavoidable circumstances. It’s important to remember that having a substitute teacher does not mean that your child’s learning will be negatively impacted. On the contrary, there are several benefits to having a substitute teacher.
Consistency through a solid curriculum!
While we only substitute a scheduled teacher under ‘must need’ circumstances, we do so with the confidence that there will be zero negative repercussions. You will be made aware of any substitutions as soon as we can, but this may not always be possible. Just like in any other educational setting, life happens! Our instructors experience the same issues around being unable to work as everyone else; they get sick, their cars break down, and other emergencies arise.
However, the absence of the scheduled instructor does not mean your child will not receive the best swimming instruction. Our instructors plan each lesson, following the same curriculum and embracing the same teaching strategies. So, a substitute teacher will know exactly what your child has been learning, what they are currently working on, and where the lesson focus needs to be. Many students enjoy a new perspective on their technique; fresh eyes on an issue are always great!
Consider the positives!
While our instructors follow our carefully developed curriculum and teaching methods, each is unique and special, with their own personality, passions, and delivery style. This variety can add to your child’s learning by presenting them with a fresh understanding of a skill. Each of our instructors excels at all things swimming-related. Still, they also bring their individuality to everything they teach, and this individuality is a fantastic way to engage and educate your child.
All substitute teachers are just as highly trained and experienced as the assigned instructor, and they will have been briefed on what needs to be taught and evaluated when they ‘fill in.’ Further, the substitute teacher will advise the scheduled teacher about progress, recommendations, and highlights of their class. Further, a substitute teacher may be a friend already made during previous lessons or an instructor that they will have again in the future!
In each lesson, your child constantly learns and is provided feedback on their skills. Replicating these skills for a different instructor demonstrates high competency, confidence, and growth. Many students thrive when presented with a new instructor, as they love to impress and show off what they have been learning. When approached with an open mind and a positive attitude, those rare occasions when a substitute teacher is needed are no cause for alarm but rather an eye toward what else is possible!
